Chinese Clock
According to Chinese medicine each organ has 2 hour windows of high function and low function.
The Chinese Clock helps us understand when the best time is to move, eat, work, have sex and sleep based on what each organ is doing.
5 am to 7 am is Large Intestine time which makes it a good time to wake up and have a BM. It’s important to let go of the day before and make room for the day ahead physically and emotionally. If there’s something bothering you from the past, it’s a good time to set intention of release and make space for forgiveness. Drink lots of water at this time and go for a nice walk or jog.
7-9am is Stomach time, so we recommend having a nice big warm and nourishing meal at this time. It’s also important to be still and allow your body to digest the food before starting your day. It’s a nice time to read the paper or a nice book after your meal. Feelings of worry can arise at this time.
9-11am is Pancreas and Spleen time, you are still digesting and your body is converting food to energy. Mental clarity should be at it’s highest peak of the day at this time and it’s a good time to exercise and work. It’s helpful to make the most of this time and get the hard stuff out of the way. I am, by writing this post at 10:30am!
11am- 1pm is Heart time, it’s working extra hard to circulate blood through your body. The heart in Chinese medicine is all about connection, so it’s a good time to meet your friends for a light lunch at this time and laugh your bum off!
1-3pm is Small Intestine time and is another time for digestion. It’s a helpful time to get a light walk in, do some lighter work or study this part of the day. We are extra good at problem solving in these hours! When out of balance, you may notice it’s more difficult to make a decision at this time.
3-5pm is Bladder time when it’s doing it’s job to filter out some toxins of the day. It’s important to drink a lot of water and have a cup of tea at this time. It’s also a good time for the brain, so work and study may come easier here. Anxiety can arise at this time.
5-7pm is Kidneys time when the blood is processing through the kidneys. It’s a good time to have your last meal and to go for a walk and/or do some yoga to assist the kidney function. Fear can arise at this time.
7-9pm is Pericardium time which is another circulation time for the blood. It’s a good time to do physical vs. mental activities. Do some yoga, meditate, or have sex! It’s also another time to connect with loved ones as well as yourself.
9-11pm is Triple Heater time or endocrine system where the body’s homeostasis is adjusted. It is recommended to head to bed at this time. Our system needs us to be resting here.
11pm-1am is Gall Bladder time which is an important time to sleep so the body can regenerate here. Balancing of yin and yang is happening now which is important for just about every function of our bodies. If you’re having pain at this time, it could be gallstones related.
1-3am is Liver time which is another important time for sleep so the blood can process through the liver and regenerate for the following day. If you’re waking at this time, it could be stress related or an over consumption of foods that the body needs to detox from including alcohol, meat, processed foods, chemicals. Frustration comes up sometimes in these hours more than others.
3-5am is Lung time which should be with sleep. The lungs are strengthening and bringing oxygen into the body. You may be in REM sleep with faster breathing at this time. If you’re coughing at this time, your lungs may be expelling toxins and ff you’re consistently waking at this time, it could be a a sign of deficient lung qi so breathing exercises would be important here until you can fall back asleep. Grief is associated with these hours, so if your body wants to go through the feels, it’s important to ride that wave.
