Acupuncture

One of the oldest forms of healing in the world, acupuncture is a safe, natural and drug-free health care system. Very thin acupuncture needles are inserted just under the skin to stimulate qi (pronounced chee). Qi is life energy-the electricity of the body, which moves from fingertips to toes, from the bones to skin. Qi can become blocked, stagnant, excessive or depleted. Acupuncture helps to restore the natural flow of qi to balance the body, mind, emotions and spirit.

Through diagnosis and pulse-taking, the acupuncturist tunes into how the systems are working and evaluates the qi quality and content throughout the body. With this information, a treatment of specific points is given to assist the body in re-balancing itself.

Five Element Acupuncture is based upon the elements in nature–wood, fire, earth, metal and water. Each of us have all of the elements within us. As a patient of Five Element Acupuncture, you will delve deeply into yourself, addressing the root of imbalance and opening the door to a healthful image of yourself as you are–perfect, complete.

Chinese Herbal Therapy

Chinese Herbs are a 2,000 year old medicinal and highly effective at relieving symptoms. They do this by moving and nourishing energy and blood in the body and improving functioning of body systems.

These ancient herbs have strong medicinal properties but are gentle in nature and rarely have any side effects. Herbs treat root causes of ailments instead of just the symptom, providing having long-term relief. These are some of the many reasons why people are turning towards Chinese Medicine.

We have a large apothecary of very healing Chinese Herbs and love to see the growth and healing that comes from giving formulas to our patients.

A typical visit is about an hour long. We will do an intake asking about your symptoms and using diagnostic tools to get to the root cause of your symptoms like taking your pulse and looking at your tongue. I will then prescribe a specific Herbal formula for you that you will take from anywhere between 2 weeks to a few months depending on need.

Cupping Therapy

In fire cupping we use a pair of hemostats to grasp a cotton ball that is soaked in alcohol; the cotton ball is then set on fire and placed inside the cup. When the flame enters the cup it burns out all the oxygen and creates a vacuum. The cup is then placed on the patient and will pull the skin into the cup. This procedure is done in a very safe manner where all safety precautions are taken.

The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, alleviate stagnation, reduce pain and sedate the nervous system (which makes it an excellent treatment for high blood pressure). Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, headaches, migraines, rheumatism, cellulite, arthritis, colds and flu, sciatica, anxiety, depression, insomnia, chronic fatigue syndrome, spasms, cramps, muscle tightness, and vertigo.

Even if you don’t have any of the issues listed above, receiving a cupping treatment can have a very relaxing effect on the body and can help promote health and wellness.  After a session, it is highly advisable to drink a lot of water, eat a small meal and rest/relax.
