Acupuncture for Wrist and Hand Pain Including Carpal Tunnel

Did you know acupuncture can reduce (if not eliminate) pain, numbness, weakness, and tingling in the wrist and fingers?

There's actually quite a bit of research on acupuncture for wrist pain. And before people get carpal tunnel surgery, I always recommend that they try a series of acupuncture treatments.

The typical course of treatment is once a week for 6-8 weeks, then we try to space the acupuncture treatments out to see how you feel.

Of course, everyone responds to acupuncture differently. And it depends on what's specifically going on that's causing wrist pain, numbness and tingling.

I've had patients able to avoid carpal tunnel surgery by managing their symptoms with acupuncture instead

I have nothing against surgery - when you need it, you need it! But if you can avoid time off from work and potential scar tissue from the healing process, it's always nice to manage your symptoms without surgery.

This article is VERY detailed and shares the results from over a dozen research studies.

Here's the most important thing to know from this research:

"Acupuncture is an effective treatment modality for patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. Independent investigations confirm that acupuncture is more effective than usual care, including anti-inflammatory medications.

Acupuncture successfully alleviates pain, inflammation, numbness, and restores motor dexterity. Electromyography confirms the results, including improvements across multiple parameters (e.g., median nerve sensory latency, sensory nerve conduction velocity, sensory amplitude, motor latency, motor nerve conduction velocity, motor amplitude)."

If you're struggling with carpal tunnel or other wrist pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness, definitely give acupuncture a try!
